Progress thus far…
If you haven’t read Part 1 yet, I suggest you go check that out.
For Part 2 of the Studio Setup Series, I think it’s a good idea to explain what I’ve been working on for the past week and change… which has been quite a bit.
Packing Up
First off, I started packing up the day after Part 1 got posted. The good news was that 90% of the setup was always packed up after each show anyways, so it all just had to get consolidated into larger bins for the move. It broke down into 2 bins; one for cables, and the other for “solid” items like mic cages, clamps, scrims, and whatever else wasn’t a cable.
Tripods were bagged back up, the studio lights got disassembled for transport, and my Traktor S4, both Traktor F1 Stem Controllers and my laptop were packed up with their cables in my custom built roller case.
Picking Up
The past 2 weekends were spent cleaning up the room that is now the studio. Full disclosure, it’s a room in the basement of my parents house. This room, which was previously a bedroom, became a dumping ground for all sorts of stuff. I spent the past 2 weekends organizing a space to move all these items out of the room, and then moving said stuff.
Once that room was empty, it became apparent that the carpet needed some serious cleaning, along with cobwebs and wall scrubbing. Considering this room has not been inhabited for more than 30 seconds at a time over the past six years, I’m surprised it only took about an hour to do all the cleaning.
Porting Over
Once that room was cleaned up, it was time to get rolling. I picked up my frontboard and its accessories from my storage unit, and then grabbed all the stuff from my apartment. I was able to pull it all over in one trip. There’s still the stream PC to move over there, but at the moment, it’s not quite ready to go. I’m still working on getting everything copied over to it from my main computer.
Putting Up
Since I’ve gotten so good at setting all this stuff up over the past few years, it was pretty easy to just do it once again (sans green screen). The table and frontboard went up quick, and everything else just unpacked real nice after that. After a few hours of messing about, I’m happy to give a preview of the new space! This is probably not the final setup and there’s still a ton of set dressing to be done, but it’s something accomplished.

The room even has a bit of a convenient storage location – all that is on those shelves is the entirety of the setup, minus the table, lights and frontboard. I’m working on a way to close that off as it appears on camera with the current camera position.
You may have also noticed some cabling ran already – yes, most of that is unpacked, and I’m starting to dial the mixer settings in again.
I won’t be getting into that stuff in this post – I want to get the stream PC over there and get that running along with some speakers in the booth area before I can call that setup done and document it. I’m also still playing with camera angles and the setup in the booth, so there are no pictures of that yet. You’ll have to come back for Part 3 if you want to read about fun audio stuff.
